Our Sea Turtle

We are prize winners in the International Sandsculpting Competition!

We just won the second prize in the inaugural Christchurch International Sandsculpting Competition in the "sea creatures" category. Below is our entry to the competition; we took four hours to construct this sea turtles. It was a great competition, and we had leading professionals sand sculptors from the US participating as well. Here are the photos. We are the MaurineMakers!

The Finished Product: our sea turtle, front face

We started with soft stacking the sand; it took several buckets of sea water to hold and pack the sand in, and some serious sculpting to get to the shape with trowels and shovels. Part of the face was sculpted with kitchen knife and with guidance from professionals life Leonard from IB Posse.
