Mukul Kesavan, in a column on Steve Jobs ([see below][2]), compared SJ with [William Morris][1], the nineteenth century English artist, writer, and socialist designer. But more to the point is his insightful observation how SJ took the idea of artistry and visual/tactile aesthetics to consumer electronics and made a deep impact in the way we interact with machines. Kesavan mentioned the dissimlarities of Jobs with Morris in the sense that the two had quite different outlooks towards work and ethics of exploitation and hand-crafting their designs (which was contextual in case of Morris as it was in case of Jobs in different ages), but I thought the comparison is quite meaningful and made for a very interesting reading.
